Year 1 have been busy today thinking about  Tolerance and what it means for us within our school. Tolerance is one of the Five British Values and is important because it means that we accept people for who they are regardless of their faith or beliefs and that we learn from others.

We read the story ‘Something Else’ by Kathryn Cave which is about how difficult it can feel to fit in when you are different to everyone else.  The characters ‘Something’ and ‘Something Else’ tried to change themselves to be more like others, but even this wasn’t good enough.  Something realised that, actually, it was best to be himself and found a friend in ‘Something Else’ when they both accepted each other for who they are.

To share our learning, we thought about what WE would do to welcome the characters into our Year 1 family. This allowed us time to talk with our peers about how our school values of Kindness, Tolerance and Respect would help us to do this.

Have a look at our kind ideas which show what a tolerant, welcoming school we are.
