Year 1 celebrated Diwali with our classmates as some of us went to Diwali celebrations at the weekend with their families. Diwali is a special celebration of lights and good triumphing over evil.

We read the story of Rama and Sita which teaches us about the importance of lights in this festival. Rama defeated the evil demon King Ravana before he and his wife, Sita, returned to their home with their path lit up by lights to guide them.

There are many ways to celebrate Diwali such as wearing new clothes, having a party with family and friends, lighting diwa lamps and making Rangoli patterns. We used coloured rice and collaborated with our friends to try and recreate some of these intricate and beautiful patterns.

We were all very proud of our resilience and perseverance with our learning today.
