I hope you are all well and keeping safe.  I have put together some music resources for you to try while you are at home. You might want to learn a new song, listen to different genres of music and be creative or even create your own music.

Listening and appraising music – BBC Ten Pieces

BBC Ten Pieces has home learning activities each week.  It is an excellent site that has lots of different activities for you to try.

This week you can discover the music of Joseph Bologne, the first classical composer of African ancestry.

One of my favourites is week 7 – create an illustration inspired by Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird’. Watch the video and then learn how to create an illustration whilst listening to the music.

One of the more practical music making lessons is week 8 – Mambo from Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story’.  Here you can listen to the beat of the music and recreate the rhythm by using kitchen utensils!  Have fun!

BBC Ten Pieces Home Learning activities

Singing

Out of the Ark music  has some great songs you can learn and join in with.  I particularly like the ‘Just for fun songs’, where you can learn the song and  this put some actions to the words.  There are activities to accompany the songs too.

There are also more songs to learn on the ‘Sing Up’ site.  If you don’t want to learn this week’s song, scroll down to find some others.  You can view the words so you can join in.

There are lots of songs for younger children like ‘Shake my sillies out’ and ‘Wiggle jiggle’.

There are lots of apps you can use to create your own music using your computer or tablet.

Purple Mash –  Purple Mash – Busy Beats

In Purple Mash, use the app ‘Busy Beats to create your own sequences.  If you click on the video link first,

it will show you haw to create your own dance tune or  chord sequence.
